This book is not about the author, me, it’s about you, and for you. I’ve purposely left myself out of the text because I wanted to put everything that I had into creating something dynamic and helpful for you! However, I think that it’s important for you to know where the inspiration for this book arose. It all comes down to a drive thru windown and a simple statement, “Sorry, You’re Two Pennies Short”.
Years ago, as a young man, I pulled into a drive-thru window at a fast food restaurant in the town where I grew up. It was a late summer night, I had just left work, and I was starving. I was also broke. It wasn’t because I wasn’t trying, because I was. I just wasn’t succeeding at the time, and I wasn’t even sure why.
You may feel the same way, some days. After I ordered a very discounted meal, I pulled up to a drive thru window at a fast food restaurant. There wasn’t anyone behind me. It was just me, and a young lady working inside. By the time that I reached the window, I realized that I didn’t have quite enough money to pay for my order. But, I thought that I had almost enough, and that I would appeal to the person working at the window for help. I was given my food and I smiled at the young lady whose face showed through the small glass box.
I told her that I only had two dollars and five cents with me, even though my bill was two dollars and seven cents. For as long as I live, I’ll never forget what happened next. The young lady looked at me, took the food back inside, and just before closing the window said, “sorry, you’re two pennies short.” I left hungry and humiliated beyond belief.
I’ve thought a lot about that moment over the years, and I’ve come to realize that it was a major turning point in my life. When I left the restaurant that night, I drove to a field, got out of car and laid on the ground. I had hit rock bottom. As I looked up at the stars, alone in the world, I remember saying to myself, “I don’t want to live like this anymore!” Whatever I have to do to change, and to make sure that nothing like this ever happens to me again, I will do!
I never knew the young lady that took that food back from me, and I didn’t know it at the time, but I owe her a huge debt of gratitude. For she lit a fire in me that still burns to this day. After that night, I was fortunate enough to move in a different direction.
I started listening to speakers, studying, and surrounding myself with people that had a different perspective on life. Was it easy, no! Not at all. Many times, I wanted to quit. And yet, because I didn’t, I was able to go from living in a mobile home, in a small town in Michigan, to working with major successful executives and leaders in some of the greatest companies in the world. I’ve been able to live the life of an entrepreneur, travel the world, and make sure that my own family will live a different life. All because, I was two pennies short!
My life isn’t perfect, nobody’s is, and I still have a lot more to do. But I have continued to evolve and grow, and my hope is that you’re doing the same. This book is full of the best timing and strategies that I learned along the way, from people that have produced incredible results in their own life. And, my hope is that you use it to change yours. Wherever you whatever you’re doing, only you, and you alone know if you’re on a Misplaced path. If you are, and you want to change, YOU CAN! I believe it with all of my heart. If you find this book helpful, and you would like to let me know, it would be a privilege to hear from you.
