What it Means to Be “Motivated or Misplaced?”
In one of the most famous novels in modern history, “The Death of Ivan Ilych,” the lead character, Ivan, upon his deathbed, asks this question, “What if my whole life has been wrong?”You see, up until the brink of his death, Ivan was living someone else’s life. His career was one that others thought he should have. His pursuits in life were based on the person that he thought he needed to be. He had a good life; it just wasn’t the one that he knew in his heart he should have lived. He ultimately died with his passions and purpose still inside, untapped, and hidden. The gifts that he took to his grave, would have dramatically changed not only Ivan’s life, but also those of many other people that he would have touched along the way.
What if you asked yourself that same question right now? What would the answer be for you? Are you truly living the life that you want?Or, are you living the life that you or someone else thought that you should have?
If you aren’t living the life that you want, then you’re Misplaced. Whatever you’re doing is not what you should be doing. It’s not what you want to be doing, and it’s not what you showed up here to do. Thanks to an outdated educational system, peer pressure, lack of courage, and a variety of other factors, there are generations of people who have spent their entire life Misplaced, only to regret it in the end, when it’s too late to do anything about it. You must not allow this to happen to you.
The life that you are living is the only one that you’re going to get. Do you want to use it living for something other than your true passion and purpose? Do you want to be full of regret at the end – flooded with thoughts of the things that you should have done?
Remember those famous words of wisdom from Randy Pausch, in his “Last Lecture”:
“It’s not the things we do in life that we regret on our deathbed. It’s the things that we did not do.”
Do you believe that there should be more to your life, but you just don’t know where to begin? Do you sometimes wish that somebody would take the time to encapsulate the major things that you need to learn in order get started?
